Frankly Speaking

I never thought the Coronavirus would hang on for so long. It looks like there has been a huge up-swing in cases in 48 of our 50 states. Now is not the time to pull back or make any sudden changes. We have had several of our church members contract COVID-19. Thankfully nobody has gotten it at church nor has it spread inside our church. From what we have seen, it has come from family members and friends. We will continue to do what most health experts encourage us to do which is wear masks, social distance, and wash our hands often. Please pray that we can get a vaccine soon that will stop this serious virus and deaths in our country. Nobody wants to get back to our regular schedule more than Bro. Steve and I do. But until we feel it is safe for everyone that attends our church, we must keep these guidelines in place.  Thank you for your understanding, support and prayers!

We plan to keep our Sunday 10:30 a.m. worship service going until things change. You can “live-stream” with us on Facebook, catch us on YouTube, or watch a delayed broadcast on the church website—www.ryehill.org. We also meet at 6:30 p.m. (permanent time change) on Wednesday nights with the same viewing options available except for Body Life Meeting nights. We feel church business and our prayer time needs to stay “in-house” insteadf being where everyone in the world can see it. We have Children’s Church back in session on Sunday mornings.  Children’s Worship and Youth Discipleship meetings are at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday evenings.

We have decided not to have our Thanksgiving dinner this year for obvious reasons. Any form of potluck or large crowds in small places has been discouraged by the CDC and state guidelines. After much prayer, we also are not going to make our Harvest Blessing Offering an emphasis during this pandemic. Some people are struggling financially, and we do not feel an extra burden needs to be put on the hurting. We are not saying you cannot give to our Building Fund. If you want to give, just clearly mark on your envelope ‘Building Fund’ in order to get your gift to the right account. We are not going to write a specific letter or promote it in our Worship Services. People are giving to the Building Fund every month and we are putting any extra money we have towards our loan principal. We want to thank everyone who faithfully gives their tithes and offerings to the Lord’s work at Rye Hill Baptist Church! You are some of the most giving people I have ever had the privilege of working with.  You always meet every need for our budget and any special offerings taken, From the bottom of our hearts, THANK YOU for being so gracious and faithful in these areas of giving.
The verse “God loves a cheerful giver” is so true of our church family!

Our push for filling 194 Christmas Shoeboxes for needy children is very close to being done. I walked by the table in our foyer and saw 4 boxes left.
Do not forget the Christmas boxes must be in by Sunday, November 15. It thrills my heart to know that 194 children will be smiling this Christmas because of your investment in this Samaritan’s Purse Ministry. We appreciate Bro. Scott and Chuck and Suzie for heading this project for us.
Be sure to be thinking also about our December missions emphasis—the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering. Every dollar given goes directly to support our foreign missionaries around the world. It is another way to support our Southern Baptist missionaries in Third World countries.

We cannot tell you how excited we are about organizing our new Long Range Planning Committee this past Body Life Meeting. The following people were approved to serve: Paul W, Phil N, Ronnie K, Landen H., Sharon B. Carl S, and Denton B. We believe we have a great group of people that will help lead us in future growth priorities and strategies of ministry. The church will have the final say on every recommendation from this committee. The first thing we plan to do is have Mission and Vision statements put on paper for everyone to see and pray about. Next we will list everything we see that needs to take place such as land purchases, parking, specific target groups, or ministries to emphasize over the next ten years. Then we will prioritize them and put specific plans in action to help insure healthy growth in the life of our church. Please pray hard for our Long Range Planning Committee! Specifically pray that the good of the church and God’s perfect will and timing are first and foremost in every decision we make.

Lori and I want to thank you for the generous gift for Pastor Appreciation in October. We truly feel greatly loved and supported by the sweet cards, many encouraging words, and the generous love gift.  It has been such a blessing to work at Rye Hill Baptist Church for over 16 years. We cannot put into words how much you have meant to our family and ministry.  We pray God will allow us to finish His work right here with you awesome people of God! We really appreciate everything you have done for us. There is nothing else I want to do or anyplace I want to go. PERIOD.

We appreciate our church staff and everyone adapting to challenging times these past 8 months. Things will get better.
We will be able to get back to our regular services. God is still on the throne and in control of all situations of life! We just have to stay faithful, keep
believing and trusting in God, plus keep inviting people to worship with us. God’s work must go on! May God bless you and your family. Please know I love each and everyone of you. Call us if we can help you in anyway.

In Christ,
Michael Franklin
